What We Do

Three disciplines, one bench.

Vintage Aircraft Services operates as a full-service aircraft maintenance facility, a restorer of antique, vintage, and classic aircraft, an experimental aircraft builder, and a shop dedicated to the craft of magneto work.

Magneto Test, Repair & Overhaul

We test, repair, and service both Slick and Bendix magnetos — including pressurized magnetos used on turbocharged engines. 500-hour inspections are routine. Average total cost runs $725 for a Bendix and $875 for a Slick (parts included).

A Word from Bill

"If it isn't right, it doesn't leave the bench."

Half a century of rebuilding aircraft teaches you one thing: shortcuts show up later, usually in the air. Every magneto we test, every fabric we recover, every panel we rewire goes out the door the same way it would if our family were flying it behind the prop.

We're not the biggest shop in Texas. We're not trying to be. We do careful, correct work on antique, vintage, and classic airframes — and we back it up with the kind of knowledge you only get from turning wrenches for fifty years.

Frequently Asked

Common questions from owners.

What magneto brands do you service?

Both major piston-aircraft ignition brands: Bendix and Slick (Continental Motors / Champion Aerospace product line). We also service pressurized magneto variants used on turbocharged and high-altitude installations.

How long does a magneto overhaul take?

Typical turnaround is 1–2 weeks once a magneto arrives at the shop. We confirm timing on intake — rush service is sometimes available for AOG situations. Call (940) 389-1723 to coordinate.

Do you work on certified aircraft only, or also experimental?

Both. Vintage Aircraft Services is set up as a full-service maintenance facility for certified antique, vintage, and classic airframes, and we also support experimental builders with custom fabrication and panel work.

Where are you located?

894 Heritage Creek Drive, Rhome, TX 76078. Rhome is in Wise County, just outside Decatur and roughly 30 minutes north of Fort Worth. We're easy to reach from anywhere in the DFW region.

What aircraft do you typically work on?

Single-engine piston: Cessna, Piper, Beechcraft, Aeronca, Piper Cub variants, Taylorcraft, Aeronca Champ, Bellanca, and similar. Vintage and antique airframes are our specialty. Call to confirm for your specific model.
